Mutants and Robots and Carnage, oh my!
Deadpool

Alright, so I’ve stuck with Deadpool through a lot of stories. I read the Deadpool Corps from cover to cover (and that was rough).  I’m not sure why I always liked him, I guess part of me wished I could be a wise ass like him, or just the dude who always knows what to say.  I think everyone has felt like Deadpool at some point.  Maybe I’m a little afraid to show myself to people like he’s afraid to show his face to people.  Maybe I can relate to him having cancer because there have been a few people in my family who have had that (and sad to say, not all of them made it through).

When I read that this story, “Dead”, was coming out, I was kinda happy, maybe it would end the character.  Then rumor’s began to fly around, one in particular being that Daken (Wolverine’s son) would inherit the costume and become the new Deadpool.

I had an idea, what if he gets cured?  What if Deadpool ends up without his healing factor and becomes a human?  Now he could be killed, now an end may be in sight.  It could be cool.

Turns out I was right (Yes, I was surprised too).  Now, the first issue post-“Dead” is out, and I have not read it yet.  But already the book feels different.  I’m curious where the book might go from here.  I was all ready to close the book on Wade and move along, remembering the good times.  Now, I can honestly say that I’m ready for some new stories.  I’m ready to see where we go from here.

Venom

I love Venom.  I love the character, the costume, the idea.  I like Venom so much that I have a tattoo of his spider logo on my right arm.  I grew up with Eddie Brock being Venom.  When Marvel changed it to Mac Gargan, I was less than thrilled, but it worked for a while.  Then, Mac went back to being the Scorpion and we got a new Venom: Flash Tompson.  At 1st, I was furious.  I didn’t like the design, I didn’t like the idea.

It took a little warming up to, but I have grown to accept Venom as Flash.  It works. Overlooking the most recent arc, “Circle of Four”, the new Venom book has been great.  Not because of the action, but because of what this story is really about.  Addiction.  Flash was an alcoholic, something that I have seen a few people in my life struggle with.  Flash has moved on from being an alcoholic to being addicted to the Venom suit.  The last issue, which was a self contained issue, focused on that, showed him to be lying just so he can use the suit.  I can’t help but wonder how far he will go to use the suit, or how far down he will spiral while using it.

Guess I’ll just keep reading.

Good news!

I have now reached a point where I am almost 100% caught up on my comics.  This is the 1st time since January that this has happened.  2012 has sucked on a personal level.  Perhaps I’ll wait until the halfway point to restart the blog and try to turn shit around.

Predictions

I just read Avengers X-Sanction #4 of 4.  Cable’s still alive.  This should make me very, very happy.  However, it has led me to the following conclusion.  Hope is the new Phoenix (for now) and Cable is going to have some part on Avengers vs. X-Men. Also, the Scarlet Witch is bound to do something.

People are talking about a “soft reboot” in Marvel.  This may very well be it.  Either way, I’m still 2 weeks behind on books, which means I have about 32 comics to read before I grab this week’s books tomorrow.  Confused yet?

X-Men vs. Avengers

Remember way back in 1987 when the X-Men and the Avengers fought each other?  I sure do.  In fact, I think my ex still has my trade (cough cough Evy cough cough).  Anyway, it was a fun story that involved Magneto mostly.  At the time he was working with the X-Men and the Avengers thought he should be brought to justice for his past actions.  It had an odd line up of Avengers (including Dr. Druid and the then Captain Mar-Vell, now known as Photon).  Eventually, the teams teamed up against the real threat, the Soviets.  Man, the 80’s were awesome!

Flash forward to now.  Marvel is setting it up again.  AvX, Avengers vs. X-Men.  A 12 issue bi-weekly event.  Am I curious, yes.  See, things were simple back in the old days of Marvel.  You were on 1 team at a time (mostly).  Well now, we got characters like Namor, Storm and (of course) Wolverine who are members of both the Avengers and the X-Men.  Although I feel like being an X-Man is a part of your life if you’re a mutant whereas being an Avenger is a choice.  I am forced to wonder who will be on what side.

Am I stoked?  After the MASSIVE let down that was “Fear Itself”, no.  I’m not excited.  These Marvel events are getting worse and worse.  Hopefully, this will be an good event.  Apparently the Phoenix is coming back.  Gee, I wonder Hope will end up with it?

52 Revisited and some Marvel Stuff

Last time I blogged, I was talking about the new 52 and what I might be dropping.  Well, Birds of Prey is gone, but I kept Supergirl, the last issue was really cool!  Batman and Robin was good too so that’s staying.  Still on the fence with Batgirl.

As for Marvel, for the 1st time, I’m a bit lost on Uncanny X-Force.  I’ll keep reading it, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not sure where this arc is going.  The last issue of New Mutants (#37) was awesome.  I never laughed so hard while reading a New Mutants book.  The issue was a stand alone, but it was great!  I’m still loving Venom and I jumped back onto reading Secret Avengers.  However, I dropped the main Avengers book.  New Avengers may soon follow.  I’m pleased with most everything else too.

Quick blog here, I’ll write again soon.

Casualties of the New 52

I haven’t blogged in a while and I figured I might as well type something out because really, it’s been too long.  Since the last time I blogged, I have found myself backed up on comics.  I’m about a week behind.  Hopefully, since I’m off this weekend, that will change.  But the thing I want to talk about most is DC’s New 52.  I started off reading about half the books.  Since then I have dropped 3 of them: Hawk and Dove, Birds of Prey, and Batman: The Dark Knight.  Hawk and Dove and the Dark Knight just have been major let downs.  As for Birds of Prey, it’s OK, but not great.

I will admit that there are other books I may drop.  Deathstroke comes to mind, and since a new creative team is jumping on board, that could spell disaster.  The same team is also taking over on Grifter, so those 2 books may end up getting dropped by me.  I’m not crazy about Batman and Robin or Batgirl either.  They are good, but I’m not excited to read them every month.  Supergirl was interesting, but even that is starting to loose my interest.  Stormwatch is another book that I feel like I can let go of, and still be fine.  Sadly, Blackhawks is ending, and I really, really like that book.

If I drop all these books, I’ll still be reading a lot.  The main Batman book is great and so is Detective Comice.  Action Comics has never let me down.  All of the Lantern books (Green and Red) have been fun and so has the Flash.  Of course things like Justice League and Aquaman are remaining strong, and hopefully they stay that way.  There are more books I’m reading too, and I intend to keep up with most of them.

Until next time…

So this is the end of an era.  I’ll be re-formatting the way I record the video reviews.  Keep a watchful eye here for more.  See you soon!

Happy Holidays to all!  Things get kinda crazy in my house during the holidays and I just had the chance to review all the book from the last two week.  Due to the very high amount of book I had (38 I think), I kinda run through this stuff very quickly.  I hope it’s easy enough to follow.  I must say, I liked almost everything I read.  Weak stuff was stronger, good stuff got better and bad stuff got well… kind of worse.  Anyway, thanks for watching!
